Microneedling · Comparison

Microneedling vs PRP

Two different tools that often work best together. Here is what each one actually does — and when to pick which.

The one-line difference

Microneedling is a trigger — it forces your skin to lay down new collagen. PRP is a fuel — it delivers concentrated growth factors from your own blood to accelerate healing wherever it is applied. Alone they do different jobs; together they compound.

When we pick microneedling alone

  • Skin-quality goals — pore refinement, glow, mild post-acne marks.
  • Stretch marks on body areas.
  • Budget-sensitive plans where scars are shallow.

When we pick PRP alone

  • Early androgenetic hair thinning (scalp injection protocol).
  • Under-eye rejuvenation for hollowness and dark circles.
  • As a stand-alone glow treatment for very sensitive skin.

When the combination wins

  • Moderate-to-deep acne scars — see the acne scar guide.
  • Advanced skin rejuvenation where downtime tolerance is low.
  • Scalp microneedling + PRP for accelerated regrowth.

FAQs

Which is better for acne scars — microneedling or PRP?+

For actual scar remodelling, microneedling is the workhorse — it creates the collagen response. PRP on its own does not remodel scars; it accelerates and strengthens the response when combined with microneedling. So the honest answer is: microneedling does the work, PRP amplifies it.

Can PRP be done without microneedling?+

Yes — PRP is used alone on the scalp for hair thinning, on the eyes for under-eye rejuvenation, and as an injectable rejuvenation treatment. But for acne scars and skin texture, it is nearly always paired with microneedling because PRP needs a delivery route into the dermis.

Is microneedling + PRP worth the extra cost over plain microneedling?+

For scar work, hair thinning and faster recovery — usually yes. For everyday glow and pore refinement, plain microneedling with a good serum is often enough. We recommend the combination case-by-case, not by default.

Is PRP safe?+

PRP is autologous — it uses your own blood. There is no risk of allergy or foreign material rejection. The main risks are bruising at the draw site and mild redness at the treatment site.
